I had a very serendipitous experience this week. A last minute cancellation happened to free me up so I was able to style @saracroce98 the absolutely gorgeous Italian actress and model who was in town for the world premiere of a film she was in showing at the Rhode Island international film festival. Had a really fun field trip to get some much appreciated clipper knowledge shared with us @skipsbarbershop on Atwells today. Anthony and his amazing barbers helped us refine our techniques and gave us the real deal barbershop experience. We can’t thank you enough and are looking forward to reciprocating the generosity of your time and experience. My favorite part was when my model and client Tim (look how good he looks!) confessed to each other we had never been in a barbershop before 😅 lol! The girls killed it too! Can’t wait to see what more fun/trouble we can get ourselves into while following our never ending passion for everything hair!! 💈

She was blonde, the illusion of it being her natural with some wisdom sparkles hiding in plain sight. We lived it, we laughed it, we loved it. But I was time to go to the dark side. Blondes may have more fun, but Brunettes are unforgettable 🤌🏽

The first time I saw Kate, I was gazing out my second floor window. I caught her walking down the sidewalk towards the salon as a strong gust of wind blew her long, straight hair wildly around. She took her hand and swept it back out of her face like a gorgeous force against the nature around her while crossing towards my door. She was stunning, fashionable, colorful, and I knew it was her because she looked just like her little sister and mother (whom I knew well).
The gap between her and her little sister Grace was similar to the one between my older sister and I, but I fell somewhere in age between them. I understood their bond and closeness because of my own closeness with my older sister.
My 3X5 card notes for our first visit on 8/7/22 reads like this: Badass mom with fraternal twin girls (aged 3 at the time)
Color notes: Party hair! Highlights with pieces in hues of peach, dusty pink, and lavender.
I was so inspired by her path to motherhood. Choosing to do it on one’s own terms and to then end up with 2 babies isn’t something just anyone does. But she did it, and she loved and lived for giving her girls all she had.
In March of this year, we found out that Kate was diagnosed with a cancer that was more than likely terminal. She came in for a haircut shortly after Grace shared the news with me. I was happy to honor Kate’s self- proclaimed vanity when she told me that her hair wouldn’t fall out. I thought it would be best to keep her feeling the most like herself and to keep her hair long. I styled it lovingly and asked her how she was feeling, unsure how we were going to navigate going forward. With conviction she said she was planning on fighting like hell, and I told her I’d be standing beside her fighting too. In tears she shared her worry for her girls, and for her sister’s inherent life change should she not make it through the fight.
